I downloaded this on my PS3 the other week, the cost was £3.49 (why do they do that? why not just make it £3.50, they’re not fooling anyone). And it’s 1080p HD as well. This is an old style shoot-em-up and all the better for it, apparently it started life as an Commodore Amiga game in about 93, and I must say they have done a terrific job of modernizing it. It looks stunning the lighting and laser effects are great the sound is appropriately sci-fi and action never slows down, no matter how many enemies and rocks are flying about the screen.
You control your ship with one stick and shoot in different directions with the other and the shoulder button sets off a bomb which wipes out everything around you. You basically get 5 planets full of asteroids which you must shoot, along with aliens and end of planet bosses. Sometimes in the asteroids you get green rocks shoot these and you receive power-ups (extra ships, shields, points….). Each planet also has 5 phases so you get 25 levels in all.
That’s the description finished. If you liked Asteroids and if you like Geometry Wars you’ll absolutely love this game!! I think it’s probably the best game I’ve downloaded so far and it’s great for that quick shoot-em-up fix. Play for 10 minutes or several hours. It’s frantic, it’s loud, it’s wife friendly (mine likes it anyway). And I would completely recommend it.
