If you needed milk and you needed it fast you wouldn’t want it delivered strapped to the back of a one legged tortoise. If you want action and thrills delivered at a breath taking pace look elsewhere.
Robert De Niro directs and Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, William Hurt, John Turturro, Timothy Hutton, Robert De Niro, Alec Baldwin & Billy Crudup all act in this one. I use act in a very loose sense, as it’s not a very interesting film, it glugs along like a farmer wading through treacle with welly boots on.
Everyone is very deadpan and depressed looking there isn’t a great deal of action or excitement either. The direction is very dark and I don’t mean that in a morbid sense “for goodness sake switch some lights on” hopefully for De Niros next film he’ll have a much bigger lighting budget, maybe he just ran out of money after paying all the actors.
This is supposed to be the story of the start of the C.I.A and that premise offers much more than this film could ever deliver in my opinion, it’s not an extremely bad film (it looks beautiful in places) it’s just I personally don’t have the patience for this film and I can’t see too many other people having the patience either. And at the end of the film I was left feeling “so what”, which is never a great thought at the end of any film.
