Another brilliant looking film from Tim Burton, which reminded me of The Corpse Bride. The visual style is only as Burton can do, quality and an atmosphere of undiluted creepiness is in every frame. The colours are kept quite monotone to better contrast with the sticky red stuff, of which there is wheel barrow loads. In fact this is my only criticism, some scenes are very, very gory a little too gory in some places I would say. Not for the squeamish or the recently fed.
Johnny Depp is superb in his acting (as always) and surprisingly at singing, he really does emit a demon demeanor and after the first 7 minutes you forget it’s a musical you’re watching. Helena Bonham Carter is absolutely brilliant, the best I’ve ever seen her act, in fact I still can’t get over how good she was. I would recommend seeing this film, but be prepared it is very gory and not the type of film to see if you’re feeling depressed as it isn’t a particularly happy romp.
You have been warned.
